“I would say that it’s impossible to overstate the importance of fashion in film.”- Isaac Mizrahi
We can’t think of any quote that better summarizes Isaac’s love of fashion design in film, TV, and red carpet looks.
With award season just around the corner, we thought that Isaac’s red carpet looks would be an appropriate topic for this edition of the “IM Loves…” series.
Here are some of our favorite Isaac Mizrahi designs that made it into the spotlight.
Isaac’s Best Red Carpet Designs for Stars
Isaac’s red carpet designs go back years—he has been outfitting some of the film and TV industry’s biggest stars for several decades!
However, we’ll be focusing on three of his most iconic designs.
The first is a beautiful dress Meryl Streep wore as she accepted her Lifetime Achievement Award at the AFI in 2004. The dress is an original Isaac Mizrahi design, and Meryl even took the time to thank Isaac for the dress in her acceptance speech!
The next look is an iconic polka dot design that Chloe Sevigny wore to the 2009 Emmy Awards. The dress was on-trend and fashion forward—some even went as far as to call it one of the greatest Emmy looks of all time. It’s definitely a look that we want to see in the future!
Last but not least is this head-turning dress that Isaac designed for Gabrielle Union just last year. She wore the dress to the 2021 Met Gala—one of the biggest celebrations of fashion. The best part? The dress paid homage to an Isaac Mizrahi design from 1991!
Onto the Future
This year, Isaac chose not to design any outfits for awards shows. Instead, he opted to focus on completing new designs in the works.
However, we’re never ruling out future outfit designs, and we look forward to seeing some more Isaac Mizrahi designs on the red carpet in the coming years.
With 35 years of Isaac Mizrahi to celebrate, we have so much more of Isaac’s illustrious career to share with you. Keep your eyes peeled for the next entry in the IM Loves… series!
